It’s an absolutely awesome time to be a Persona 4 fan, not to mention, fighting games! A couple of months back Guru played the brilliant PS Vita re-boot of Persona 4 which was dubbed 'Golden', which is the definitive edition of an already fantastic game.
This new console spin-off is a full-blown sequel to Persona 4, which turns the series on it's head and picks up the mantle of the already crowded fighting genre and Guru couldn’t be happier! For those who haven’t heard of Persona 4, it is a highly acclaimed installment in the Shin Megami Tensei series of Japanese Role Playing Games (JRPGs).
The JRPG genre has become increasingly popular with Western audiences and Persona 4 is considered one of the best. So it's quite surprising that 'Arena' messes with the 'turn-based' combat mechanics of the original games, in favour of a far more visceral fighting game mechanic, going up against the likes of Tekken, DOA, Street Fighter, and Soul Calibur.
The results are truly incredible, trumping the previously mentioned fighting franchises at their own game! The stand-out is the excellent ‘Story Mode’, which has far more depth than your typical brawler and is an official sequel to Persona 4 – fantastic stuff!
